Meet Bobby

Bobby Douglass grew up in El Dorado, Kansas and was recruited to the University of Kansas where in 1968 his senior year, he became a unanimous All- American selection.  He led Kansas to its 1st Big 8 Championship in 20 years and played in the Orange Bowl, the Senior Bowl and the All-American Bowl during his college career.  He was twice chosen as a Big Eight Conference MVP, once for the All-American Bowl MVP, and twice as University of Kansas MVP.  He was also selected Captain for three Bowl games.

Bobby was drafted in the first round of the 1969 NFL draft by the Chicago Bears out of the University of Kansas and began his career as quarterback of the Chicago Bears.  During his seven years with the Bears, Bobby became known as one of the most competitive quarterbacks and players in the NFL.  He set several Bears club records and is ranked among the all-time Bear leaders in many categories.  He is second only to Gale Sayers in most points scored during a single game and most touchdowns in a single game.  He is the all-time Bears leader in average gain rushing for lifetime and second in average gain rushing in a single season.  He was the last Bear to throw four touchdown passes in a single game and he did so twice.

Bobby also holds the current NFL record for yards rushing by a quarterback in a single season.  Bobby was considered one of the finest running and scrambling quarterbacks of his era and is considered to have had one of the strongest throwing arms ever in professional football history.  After seven years with the Bears, he went on to play for the New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers and Green Bay Packers.

Football wasn't Bobby's only talent.  After retiring from pro football, he pitched for the Chicago White Sox organization for a couple of seasons.

In addition to his successes on the athletic field, he's been successful in the field of business as well.  He has been involved in promoting and marketing numerous products, services and events, and has been a successful multi-family housing and commercial real estate developer.  In recent years he has worked as a licensed property/casualty insurance broker for a major Chicago-based insurance brokerage company and as a food broker.

Bobby has always been a popular speaker with business and community groups.  In addition to frequently making guest appearances on local radio and television sports shows, he has hosted several radio and television sports programs himself.   He is also active in scores of charitable activities, including benefits for the Better Boys Foundation, the National Society for Prevention of Blindness, the Brian Picolo Cancer Foundation, United Way and Maryville City of Youth.
